Begun as a Platinum Jubilee project covering the period of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II reign, following conclusion of the Jubilee this project will continue adding to the years covered and also to the content for each year with events from throughout Cornwall. This is an ongoing project, a positive working legacy of the 2022 Jubilee.

1971
‘Duchy not the County’ - The Kilbrandon Report into the British constitution recommended that, when referring to Cornwall - official sources should cite the Duchy not the County. This was suggested in recognition of its constitutional position.
1972
1973
Newquay Museum has a close working relationship with United Response based in Truro, a charity supporting people with learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs. United Response was founded in 1973 with just one service in West Sussex, they now support around 2,000 people, work in 400 locations across England and Wales and employ more than 3,500 staff.
1974
Local Government Reorganisation saw the creation of six borough councils across Cornwall with in the Unitary Authority controlled by Cornwall Council. These were Caradon, Carrick, Kerrier, North Cornwall, Penwith and Restormel.
1975
The Cornish Nationalist Party was formed by people who left Cornwall's main nationalist party Mebyon Kernow on 28 May 1975, but it is no longer aiming for independence.
1976
The sizzling summer of 1976 - The summer of 1976 remains our longest recorded spell of hot weather. Here in the West Country, we went for 45 days without any rain at all. Temperatures reached near 30 degress in Cornwall causing a drought, many streets had to use standby taps as water shortages increased
1977
Brymon takes over Newquay Airport. During the year Brymon carried over 25,000 passengers on its Newquay-London flight alone. Alidair, Guernsey Air Lines and Jersey European Air lines all ran services.
1978
A Cornish resident Dr Peter D Michell wins The Nobel Prize in Chemistry. This was awarded to the Cornish Resident Peter D. Mitchell "for his contribution to the understanding of biological energy transfer through the formulation of the chemiosmotic theory." Dr Michell died in Bodmin in 1992.
1979
European Parliament Election held in Cornwall and Plymouth. The Cornwall and Plymouth European Parliament constituency was created in 1979 which consisted of the Westminster Parliament constituencies of Bodmin, Falmouth and Camborne, North Cornwall, Plymouth Devonport, Plymouth Drake, Plymouth Sutton, St Ives and Truro.
1980
William Golding wins Booker Prize. On 21st October 1980, William Golding was awarded the Booker Prize for Rites of Passage. Golding was 69 and until 2019, when the Booker Prize was shared between Bernardine Evaristo and Margaret Atwood (aged 79), he had been the oldest winner of the award.
