Kowethas Kernow Goth Tewynblustri

Kowethas Kernow Goth Towan Blystra (Newquay Old Cornwall Society) is a member of the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies and is one of over 40 towns and villages in Cornwall have such an organisation. It was established on Wednesday 21st December 1928.

The society runs museum facilities on two sites at Dairyland Farm World and the main museum and archive at Newquay Museum in central Newquay. The museum has been a winner of the Cornwall Heritage Awards on multiple occasions.  A lot of external work is carried out by volunteers including the award-winning Newquay Old Cornwall Archaeology Group who carry out extensive monitoring and clearance work. The society through its sub-groups carries out extensive outreach work by way of exhibitions and visual presentations. Volunteers have worked extensively with a number of project partners in the Cornish heritage, art and environmental sectors.

The Newquay society covers a number of other surrounding parishes including: Newquay, Crantock, St. Columb Minor, Cubert, Colan, St. Newlyn East and St. Mawgan.

A number of Newquay Old Cornwall Society members have been honoured with a Bardship of the Gorsedh Kernow, the Gorsedh of Cornwall. The Society has a banner, one of the finest of all ‘Old Cornwall’ societies, in its centre is a pilchard on a shield. This is paraded at a number of events relating to Cornwall’s history and heritage throughout the year.

Membership helping support lectures and activities for members as well as the work the society does in supporting Newquay and Cornish heritage has a membership fee of £10.00, due annually on 1st September. This may be paid at any meeting, bank payment or directly to the Membership Secretary.
