Newquay - Festival of Walks 2025

A relatively short Newquay walk but one from which much of the towns history could be seen ran along the cliff top from above Tolcarne Beach to overlooking Porth Beach at Glendorgal. This was a bi-lingual walk in Kernewek and English and supported the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies 'Festival of Walks 2025' and 'Speak Cornish Week 2025'. A 'Kernewek rag dallethoryon' (Cornish language for beginners) leaflet, sponsored by Celtic Nation Kernow, along with other material was provided for each walker.

The walk was led by Elizabeth Carne former Grand Bard of Gorsedh Kernow and lead of the Newquay Cornish language class who provided commentary in Kernewek and Len Sheppard coordinator at Newquay Museum and chair of Newquay Old Cornwall Society. A small but enthusiastic group was also joined by Nev Meek the President of the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies. Thanks also to William Emmett for his input and being the 'official' photographer recording this event.

This was an opportunity to share a wide aspect of Newquay history, but also dispel many erroneous myths and stories shared on well-known social media platforms and websites. Such a shame so many people get their local history from such sites and hearsay.

Thanks to all those who supported this event and with their donations, which were much appreciated, Newquay Museum.
